Anyone who knows me is aware that I’m a longtime, committed advocate of women taking on professional and leadership roles in technology. With today being International Women’s Day, I wanted to take this opportunity to shine a light on some of the amazing women with whom I have the privilege of working every day at Chargebacks911!
Why it Matters
At Chargebacks911, we’ve taken a very serious commitment to helping every member of our organization grow and reach their true potential. That can take different forms, though, depending on certain circumstances.
It’s my view that women have the same competencies in professional roles as their male colleagues. The key difference, though, is that we often tend to take a different approach to how we conduct ourselves.
In my experience, women tend to be more hesitant to step up and claim credit for their accomplishments. We are generally less insistent on demanding recognition for our contributions, preferring instead to operate with more attention paid to team, rather than individual, success. Research finds that women in management positions tended to place more emphasis on cooperation, while men in similar positions had more “transactional” approaches to leadership.
Being focused on the success of the team, rather than just on the individual, is a great attribute to have as a leader. However, it can result in a lot of competent, effective female leaders going overlooked as men are naturally more inclined to demand recognition. I firmly believe that we need to stand up and start promoting our own competency by drawing attention to our achievements.
What We’re Doing at Chargebacks911
I want to make this a primary goal for us at Chargebacks911. In response, we featured a number of brief interviews with some of the women occupying leadership positions within the company in a new post published to the Cb911 site. I was asked to start the conversation off, but we also featured input from:
- Tracy Cray (Director of Card Scheme Compliance)
- Tan Jia Min (Director of Business Development – APAC)
- Melissa Fitzsimmons (VP of Customer Success)
- Maria Papadi (Senior Business Analyst)
- Felicia Figueroa (Director of Workflow Implementation)
- Kaylee Frahs (Director of Client Relations)
It’s just a small gesture. However, what better way is there to observe International Women’s Day than with a showcase of some of the impressive talent occupying leadership positions right here in our own company?
This International Women’s Day, we’re committed to promoting the amazing female talent on our team!
