This week, we celebrated the completion of the 13th annual Paid for Grades program!

I was unfortunately not able to attend the ceremonies in person. But, knowing that 169 ninth-grade students from five Pinellas County schools each receive their well-earned rewards, totaling $169,000, fills me with immense pride. These young people didn’t just improve their grades; they proved to themselves that hard work, dedication, and perseverance pay off in meaningful ways.

Helping Students Achieve More Than They Thought Possible

These freshmen from Boca Ciega, Hollins, Lakewood, East Lake, and Seminole High Schools all demonstrated remarkable resilience and growth. They improved their GPAs, increased their literacy levels, maintained strong attendance, and maintained a clean behavioral record throughout the program. In a year when Florida’s reading scores hit a 25-year low, these students moved in the opposite direction; they rose to meet challenges and exceeded expectations.

The program’s simple but powerful formula continues to work: improve your GPA and readability levels, maintain strong attendance and good behavior, and get rewarded for the effort. Students earn $500 for themselves, their designated mentors receive $400, and their schools get $100. But the real reward goes far beyond the money.

Teachers tell us they see increased confidence, better study habits, and a renewed sense of possibility in these students. As far as I’m concerned, that transformation matters more than any dollar amount.

Growing the Paid for Grades Program

I’m equally proud to have been able to support this initiative through Chargebacks911. When I founded Paid for Grades thirteen years ago, I believed that incentivizing academic achievement could make a real difference in young lives. Today, with more than 800 students helped and nearly $2 million donated to Pinellas County students, mentors, and schools, that belief has become proven reality. The feedback from teachers, parents, and students themselves confirms that this program provides exactly the motivation and support these young people need during a critical time in their educational journey.

Looking ahead to next year, I’m excited about continuing to grow the program throughout the Tampa Bay area. We’ve already expanded by adding East Lake and Seminole High Schools over the past two years, and the enthusiasm from educators and students has been overwhelming. My goal is to bring Paid for Grades to every school that wants it for their students.

To achieve this vision, we’re actively seeking corporate partners who share our mission and want to contribute their time, talent, or resources. The momentum behind Paid for Grades is undeniable, and with the right partnerships, we can transform this from a critical program at select schools in Pinellas County to a universal program throughout Tampa Bay and beyond.

Every student who succeeds through Paid for Grades reminds me why this work matters so much. Congrats, everyone!
